The controversial Inspa World (Malba / Queens, NY)) opened with a grand party last Thursday night in College Point as Councilman Tony Avella (D-Bayside), the spa's leading foe, gathered with about a dozen neighbors outside to say he will not stop fighting the palatial day retreat.

Outrigger Enterprises Group announced it has entered into an agreement with Micronesia Investment and Development Corporation (MIDCORP) and Agora Development Group (ADG) to manage a new luxury resort project to be built on the island of Koror in the Republic of Palau.
The resort, to be called the Outrigger Palau Resort, Spa and Hotel, will be built on a beachfront site near Echang village. The US$40 million resort is tentatively set for completion in late 2009 and will consist of 100 luxury hotel rooms, 10 over-water bungalows and 50 villas/condominiums, in addition to several restaurants, retail shops, spa and function space.

Earlier this years, construction workers hustled about the new Emerson Resort & Spa (New York) spa facility, where massive, intricately carved 16th century Persian doors herald a grand entrance. The doors, once a part of owner Dean Gitter's personal antique collection, are the inspiration for the spa theme: The Silk Road. The passageway refers to an ancient 5,000 mile trade route in Southeastern Asia where travelers bartered jade, gold, silk and art, contributing to the development of civilizations including China and Rome from the early thirteenth century until the eighteenth century. . . .
The original Emerson Inn & Spa, which began operating in 2000, was partially destroyed by fire in April 2005 when a four-alarm blaze demolished the Inn portion of the facility.

The Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center, located slopeside at the Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado, has opened a luxury full-service spa as part of a $3.5 million renovation. The ski-in/ski-out Spa at Beaver Run has 20 trained aestheticians and massage therapists and features six treatment rooms for mud wraps, Bindi herbal body treatments and oxygen therapy, among other treatments. Within the 2,800 square-foot facility are two six-person hot tubs with a view of the mountains, and a Vichy shower - a horizontal shower bed with multiple showerheads. The new Watsu therapy pool, at 9,800 feet, is believed to be the highest in North America.
