Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Houston affiliate, honored the inaugural Massage for the Cure by naming Massage Envy as the “2007 Community Service Group,” during its Pink Ribbon Reception held recently at Macy’s Galleria location.

The 2008 Massage for the Cure fund-raising event is September 15, said Lance O’Pry, regional developer for the 23 area Massage Envy locations.

Spa and Massage Therapy Organizations to Gather in Chicago for Two Day Conference (July 31, 2008)

Chicago is hosting the two-day event aimed at owners and managers of spas and massage therapy organizations from around the country. It will combine motivational and interactive workshops from key Cortiva management, access to industry leaders to brainstorm about the state of the industry, a keynote address from WTS International’s Kate Mearns, Spa Director, The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg, and informal networking opportunities.

The conference will take place at Cortiva Institute – Chicago, School of Massage Therapy, 17 N. State Street, Chicago, IL 60602 from 9:00am to 5:30pm, July 31st and August 1st, 2008.

Spa Experience at Grand Central Station

Grand Central isn't exactly known as a temple of tranquility and relaxation. But from Oct. 31-Nov. 3, when the Spa Experience comes to the landmark train station, busy commuters and visitors to the city will be able to chill out a little and sample a massage before running for the 5:17 train home to the 'burbs.

Fifty destination spas and spa beauty companies will have booths at the Spa Experience, from Miraval, Life in Balance, the Tuscon, Ariz., spa, to the CuisinArt Resort & Spa in Anguilla.

Spa of Colonial Williamsburg Now Open

On August 9, 2007, the recently opened Spa of Colonial Williamsburg brings the Best of the American Experience to the International Spa Association (ISPA) NYC Media Event. Spa Director and former ISPA Chairman Kate Mearns will present the Spa's philosophy of The Continuum of Wellness, sharing with the media five centuries of colonial, African and American Indian wellness practices blended into the modern spa experience in an inventive, invigorating setting. UC Irvine Extension, the pioneer of the first Spa and Hospitality Management certificate program on the West Coast, announces the program’s newest elective course offering – “Fundamentals of Spa Design.” Uniquely developed to meet the demands of the burgeoning spa market, the new course addresses the multitude of details involved in the concept, design and construction processes for spa projects.
