The spa services industry is experiencing unprecedented growth, with demand growing every day. There are almost 300,000 people employed in the $14 billion industry, yet it lacks any true systematic approach to core competencies and career development. In fact, a recent survey revealed that fifty percent of therapists quit the industry within five years of completing their training.

New Rules for Texas Massage Therapists

Massage schools are expecting a surge of new students this summer as aspiring message therapists seek their state licenses before increased training requirements take effect Sept. 1. The new rules call for entry-level massage therapists to have at least 500 hours of training, rather than 300, to get certified. Texas Gov. Rick Perry recently signed a bill outlining the new requirements.

Japanese Hot Springs Spa Explosion; 3 Dead

An explosion at a women's spa in central Tokyo on Tuesday killed three people and injured at least three others. The afternoon explosion appeared to have been triggered by methane gas that seeped from the ground beneath the popular "Shiespa" hot spring and caught fire, according to police.
